Vision

Vision

September 2018 the world met our Vision. This concept car shows what the ultimate electric endurance racecar looks like for us. It was also the car introduced the world to InMotion’s new goal: fast charging. We call it ‘Electric Refueling’. A current issue that keeps people from driving electric cars is long charging times. By removing this barrier we want to make driving these cars more attractive to use by the general public. To make this possible in a racecar two aspects have to be considered. Firstly the battery, which has to be charged faster. Secondly, the efficiency has to be improved to ensure the car can drive a longer distance with the same battery. In the Vision mostly the second aspect has been taken into account. The aerodynamics are carefully thought out and designed within the team, which makes the aerodynamic efficiency about 10 times as high as that of a formula 1 car. This is what gives the Vision its unique look.

Engineers have also thought about other aspects of the car. These include a fan system, suspension, electric powertrain, aerodynamics, and monocoque. The team has built up knowledge about most of these topics by building first the Ignition and then the Fusion. Additionally, multiple graduation projects have been done about these aspects to make the Vision as efficient as possible.

With this car as a concept, we started thinking about how we could further establish our vision of Electric Refueling. This resulted in the build of a new car, which will incorporate the first aspect that makes fast charging in a racecar possible, namely the battery. Click here to read more about our new car.

Facts about the Vision

  • The vision has a downforce of 40000 N.
  • The aerodynamics use a single airfoil system, which gives the car more downforce and reduces drag.
  • The shark fin on the rear of the car, which can also be seen on LMP cars, provides a counteractive force when the car would begin to slide sideways.
  • The design of the Vision gives it some blind spots. These have been made visible again using cameras. Furthermore, the aerodynamics also improved by removing the mirrors altogether and replacing them with cameras.
  • Parts of the nose and back of the car are 3D printed.
